Maria Emilia Panzetta, PhD

Maria Emilia is a Biological Chemist whose career was led by a strong interest in the microbial world from the very beginning. She started working as an undergrad in a Bacterial Genetics lab and then decided to pursue a PhD focused on the characterization of persistence in the intracelullar pathogen C. trachomatis at the National University of Cordoba, Argentina. During her Graduate studies, she enjoyed teaching General Microbiology to undergrads. Her research revolves around the role of the gut microbiome in neurodegenerative diseases, with a specific emphasis on Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
When she is not pipetting, she likes experimenting with new recipes, enjoying tasty food with friends, visiting new places, and staying active doing Pilates and hiking.
