Raphael Valdivia, PhD
Chair, Integrative Immunobiology
Raphael was born and raised in Lima, Peru. He received his PhD from Stanford University in Microbiology & Immunology and postdoctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley. He is a microbiologist, cell biologist, geneticist, and now, immunologist. He started his faculty position at Duke University in 2002 to build a research program on host-microbe interactions.
Raphael is a Pew Scholar and a Burroughs Welcome Investigator in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Diseases. He is also an elected fellow in the American Academy of Microbiology and the American Association of the Advancement of Science. In addition to running the lab, Raphael is the Chair of the Department of Integrative Immunobiology.
